The Office of Recipient Affairs promotes awareness and the implementation of recovery- and empowerment-oriented services and supports to recipients and providers of mental health services throughout Westchester County. The Office acts as a liaison between the Department of Community Mental Health and recipients of mental health services, and provides technical assistance to local self-help groups, recipient-led programs and related initiatives. This office also has the ability to provide limited scholarship and financial grants to those who are eligible.
The Recipient Affairs Specialist has an integral role in the Department’s planning, implementation, and evaluation of County mental-health programs. In addition, the Recipient Affairs Specialist serves as liaison between the Department and the NYS Office of Mental Health’s Office of Advocacy and Peer Support Services (OAPSS), ensuring local recipient contribution on committees and projects implemented statewide. This position also assists individuals with identifying resources, negotiating barriers to accessing services and supports and resolving concerns recipients may encounter when working with community-based providers. The Recipient Affairs Specialist may also be called upon to provide consultation to local providers on ways to incorporate recipient input and staffing into their agency operations.
