Depression is more common than most people think

In Westchester County alone, about 43,350 adults will be affected by depression this year.

Everyone feels sad at some point in his or her life when they experience disappointments or when things go wrong. It is also normal to feel sadness after a death, especially of a family member or a close friend.

But clinical depression is more than just feeling down. It's a serious illness that can leave an individual feeling intense sadness and hopelessness, and interfere with every aspect of life.

If you are depressed, we'd like to help. For free information or referrals for treatment, call the Depression Support Network at (914) 995-5236.

Free depressions screening during May - Mental Health month

And during the month of May - Mental Health month - you and loved ones concerned about possible depression, should take advantage of the free depression screenings being scheduled across the county. Check out the events calendar for locations and dates.
